55 young people from 16 countries spent 9 days in Hiroshima.
PCV was in charge of one full day of the program.
Our schedule was packed: A tour in the Peace Memorial Park → the a-bomb survivor’s testimony → the Peace Memorial Museum visit→ and a reflection workshop.
The tour was led by 8 Peace Buddies. Because of the heat, we made sure to move carefully, staying in the shade and checking on the participants’ condition. Some groups were especially active—after each explanation, two or three questions would immediately follow, which was very impressive.
When Ms. Toshiko Tanaka, a hibakusha, shared her story, everyone listened attentively. During the Q&A, questions flowed without pause, and after her talk, many participants came up personally to express their gratitude directly.
Finally, reflecting on everything they had learned, participants thought about the future they want to create through the theme of “Peace & ___.” It was a chance for them to reflect on their own “keywords of peace,” their “own happiness,” and their “unique strengths.”
It was heartwarming to see how each group listened closely to one another and engaged in dialogue.
We are truly grateful for this precious opportunity.
