PCV regularly hosts participants from overseas and conducts Peace Dialogue in English.
On this day, we welcomed participants from the “ASEAN-Japan Peace Ambassador Project 2025” and guided them on a tour of the Peace Memorial Park.
This project is a program for young people from Japan and ASEAN countries, designed to cultivate empathy, dialogue skills, and multicultural understanding—qualities essential for building peace.
Participants joined from the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan, leading to moments of deep and meaningful dialogue.
One of our Peace Buddies who guided the tour shared the following reflections:
“When I look at the current state of the world, I sometimes feel hopeless or anxious about the future. But seeing the participants try to find hope by reflecting on themselves through what happened in Hiroshima made me feel that I want to be like that too.”
“Each of them strongly felt their own ‘responsibility’ to help create a peaceful world, and I could sense their power to take concrete action.”
Rather than simply delivering information one-way, the tour created a space to share thoughts and emotions and encourage one another—an essential aspect of peace dialogue.
Participants also shared their impressions:
“I realized that the number of victims is not just a statistic, but represents the weight of real human lives.”
“I was reminded of the importance of peace, and I felt that dialogue is crucial in building a positive future. Thank you for creating a space where we could understand each other.”
Because each participant came with different historical backgrounds and perspectives, our conversations led to many new discoveries and ways of understanding.
We feel grateful to have met new friends who also want to work for peace in the world. Their presence gave us hope and courage.
To all the participants, and to everyone at the Japan Foundation who organized this program, thank you very much for giving us this special opportunity.
